Displaying Windows build version in your desktop/wallpaper
Ever wondered which exact build of Windows you're using?
Displaying the build version on your desktop can be a handy way to keep track, especially for troubleshooting or system management. In this guide, I'll show you how to enable this feature using the Registry Editor—an easy and effective method for keeping essential system details visible at all times.
Let’s dive in!
Step 1: Open Registry Editor:
Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
Type regedit and press Enter.
If prompted by User Account Control, click Yes to proceed.
Step 2: Navigate to the Correct Registry Path:
In the Registry Editor, go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\DesktopLocate “PaintDesktopVersion” entry. If it doesn’t exist, you’ll need to create it.
Step 3: Modify or Create the PaintDesktopVersion Entry:
If “PaintDesktopVersion” exists, double-click it.
If it doesn’t exist:
Right-click on an empty space in the right panel.
Select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Name it “PaintDesktopVersion”.
Set its “Value Data” to “1” to enable the display.
Step 4: Apply the Changes:
Click OK to save the changes.
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Once your system restarts, you should see the Windows build version displayed in the bottom-right corner of your desktop.
